As previously noted, Charlaine Harris’ novels are very popular, thus this is where the list will start. While the “Twilight” series has also exploded into the mainstream, this list is dedicated to adult paranormal romance novels. So, they aren’t going to be included in this list. This novel is the first in the Sookie Stackhouse chronicles. In the small town of Bon Temps, LA, vampires are but a mere myth--despite the fact that vampires made their public debut. Sookie Stackhouse is a psychic waitress in a little diner in Bon Temps. She has always been called a freak due to her unique situation. While on duty, Bon Temps’ first vampire, Bill Compton, wanders into Sookie’s workplace. Though the town looks down on vampires and Sookie’s affiliation with them, a stunning/startling romance ensues…not without its twists and turns. 2. Kitty and The Midnight Hour - Carrie Vaughn (ISBN: 9780446616416; Publisher: Warner Books ) Unlike the previous novel, this one focuses on Werewolves. Kitty is the world’s first Werewolf radio talk show host--though, to the real world, she is just an odd duck talking about paranormal happenings in the middle of the night. Her talk show runs late at night and listeners call in to ask Kitty’s advice on their paranormal issues--vamps, ghosts, werewolves and wannabe’s alike. To most, Kitty’s show is all fun and games, but to some in the paranormal community Kitty’s show threatens their exposure and she finds herself a player in a dangerous game. With shifters and vamps gunning for one another and kitty, she finds herself in a pickle--but does she find male companionship while on the run? 3. Touch The Dark - Karen Chance (ISBN: 9780451460936. Publisher: Roc ) “Touch The Dark” has a little bit of everything. Cassie Palmer can see the future; she can also communicate with ghosts--two talents, which didn’t go, unnoticed by the vamps. As a child, Cassie was taken in by the vampire mob-boss, Tony. She was utilized for her unique talents and kept under lock and key for most of her life. As an adult, Cassie managed to break free of Tony’s tyranny only to fine herself in a more dangerous predicament. He comes gunning for her and she is forced to seek the protection of the vampire senate--including her childhood crush (also brother to the legendary Dracula). Cassie is all grown up now and finds that the attraction is still present--and stronger than before. Seems her former crush returns the sexual attraction--and he’s willing to help her, but at what price? This is just a starting point for those interested in paranormal romance novels. The aforementioned books all differ in style, approach and characterization. So, they may not all appeal to one person. They are merely a sampling of the genre.
