- The Protagonist– Elena is an entertaining protagonist, following many of the urban fantasy trends without falling victim to the cliches. She is independent and witty, without having the constant foot-in-mouth syndrome and inability to ask for help that other female protagonists seem to have. She is a truly haunted character with baggage that adds to the story rather than simply working as a superfluous character development. Readers will identify easily with Elena.
- Angels– Who would have guessed that angels could be sexy? Singh does an excellent job of developing the angelic race as separate from that of humanity, with their own morals, belief systems, political structure, and priorities. The clash between the human and angel societies, played out through the relationship between Raphael and Elena is one of the best parts of the story.
- The Relationship Between Elena and Raphael– Nalini Singh knows how to keep her readers guessing on the romantic front. She sets the lovers up against seemingly impossible odds and manages to forge a believable, satisfying relationship between them while still remaining true to the essence of their characters. The obstacles in the way for Elena and Raphael to have a successful relationship are not long held grudges and overblown misunderstandings of other romance novels, but real cultural and physical divides that have strong repercussions on their relationship.
- A New Take on Vampires– In the "Guild Hunter" universe, vampires are made by angels. The author blends vampires into the world, maintaining their trademark sex appeal and common mythologies without making vampires seems like the same played out genre-trope. It's a novelty to read a story in which vampires aren't at the top of the food chain and are beholden to some very powerful masters.
- It's Sensual– Nalini Singh knows how to ramp up the sexual tension and carry it successfully throughout the entire book. She sensualizes many smells, tastes and other experiences in unique ways to make make her story scorching hot. The palpable tension combined with the unique premise and non-stop action make Angels' Blood an addicting story you can't put down.
