Amanda Quick, aka Jayne Ann Krentz, follows the dangerous men and insightful women of the secretive Arcane Society of Late Victorian England and 21st century America.

Amanda Quick’s Arcane Society Series explores the lives of the men and women veiled in the world of the paranormal. Her historical and contemporary romance novels combine suspense with paranormal elements for an exciting trip through centuries of Arcane member exploits and relationships.

The History of Arcane House

Founded in the 1600s by Sylvester Jones, the Arcane Society was established to research the limitations and potential of individual paranormal abilities and protect the secrets of those individuals possessing psychical talents. A reclusive, antisocial man, Sylvester “possessed a powerful gift for what in the late seventeenth century was known as alchemy.” As an alchemist he received critical attention, as his experiments were, more often than not, controversial.

His most notorious experiments involve his attempts to create a genetically superior offspring through selective breeding techniques. Procreating with two different women, Sylvester found that the psychical abilities of his children were enhanced through genetic planning. However, much to his dismay, Sylvester also discovered the genetic contribution of the mother also contributed to his children’s advanced level of awareness and talent. And this was unacceptable.

A man of outrageous paranormal abilities and a somewhat unbalanced view of societal norms, Sylvester’s reputation influenced public opinion of the Arcane Society in a somewhat negative fashion. As a result, the members must maintain strict confidentiality, careful to keep the secrets of Arcane House’s talented associates.

The Motivation of Quick’s Arcane Society Members

Dedicated to the preservation and study of Arcane member psychical abilities, the progressive members of the society embrace opportunities to protect and promote other individuals possessing paranormal gifts. One such enterprise is the development of Jones & Jones (J&J) investigations, a detective firm specializing in cases involving paranormal crimes and the concerns of the Arcane House Governing Council.

Founded by Caleb Jones, the investigative company employs individuals with paranormal talents who possess a desire to mete out justice. Caleb’s ability to detect patterns in chaos assist him in his work, and his recruitment of talented individuals of paranormal abilities contributes to the success of Jones and Jones Investigations. Caleb’s business flourishes throughout the centuries and J&J investigations continues to do business in the twenty-first century.

There are six novels in the Arcane Society series, and each novel is designed to stand on its own. New readers will have no difficulty following the plot or characterization of Quick's most recent publication, and ardent readers will enjoy the continued development of the Arcane Society legacy and the romantic, dangerous adventures of its members.
